On behalf of Sheriff Kevin Beary and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, I am providing the following information to
assist you and the Latino Officers Association Florida, Inc. in conducting its annual police rating system for 2006.  The
Orange County Sheriff’s Office takes great pride in not only providing outstanding service to the Hispanic community,
but also leading the way in the hiring of Hispanic law-enforcement officers in the Central Florida Area.

We have several Liaisons to our Hispanic Community led by Capt. Miguel Pagan.

Capt. Ángelo Nieves - Sector Commander/ Liaison to the Hispanic Community

Cmdr. Raúl González - Special Assistant to Orange County Mayor Crotty/ Liaison to the Hispanic Community

Cpl. Susan Soto and Deputy Carlos Padilla - are two fully Spanish speaking Public Information Officer/ Liaison to the
Hispanic Community

DFC Hiram Bustamante - Hispanic Crime Prevention Officer and Liaison to the Hispanic Community



3. How many Latino events did your agency attended in 2006? If so please name.

The Puerto Rican Parade, Los Tres Reyes Magos, The Kite Festival (el festival de las chiringas), Calle Orange, Medina
Festival, the Hispanic Recruiting Task Force.  The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is an active member of the YMCA
Hispanic Achievers Program.  We also participate at the yearly Hispanic Chamber of Commerce EXPO, and at the
Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce Summit (this year the event took place in Puerto Rico).    

4. Does your agency have Spanish speaking emergency operators?

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has 13 emergency operators who provide coverage 24 hours at day, seven days a
week.

5. Is your agency web site offered in Spanish?  

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office web site has a Hispanic Link with information in Spanish (example las leyes de la
Florida) to help Orange County residents. Through the same link, we provide crime prevention brochures. The Orange
County Sheriff’s Office also provides the Citizen Police Academy in Spanish once a year.

Our Public Information Officers provide several crime prevention programs in several of our Hispanic radio stations.  

6. What was the agency budget for 2006?

$155,300,000

7. How many, if any, Latinos were hired by your agency in 2006?

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office hired 14 Latinos in 2006.

8. How many Latinos in your agency were promoted in 2006?  Please state positions.

1 Master Deputy promoted to Corporal
3 Corporals promoted to Sergeant
1 Sergeant promoted to Commander
1 Lieutenant promoted to Captain

9. How many Latinos were hired to attend the academy in 2006?

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 2006 hired/sponsored 10 Latinos to attend the academy.

10. Did your agency receive any Federal funding in 2006?
