Miami Dade Police report
2006 A Grade Department
Congratulation Director Parker on running a Latino Officers Association Florida, A grade rating system Police agency.
Miami Dade Police
Dear Mr. Martinez:
Thank you for your recent e-mail requesting information regarding Hispanic officers. The requested information is
provided as follows:
1.The current Miami-Dade Police Department's (MDPD) Workforce Analysis is attached to this email. The ethnicity
of each rank from Officer through Director is listed. A
2. The Miami -Dade Police Department does not have anyone identified as a "Latino Liaison." A
The LOA-FLA committee did discover that the Department has Spanish P.I.O. Which do
liaison in part with the Latino community. Examples: news media outlet, conducting interviews
with the Spanish network regarding community safe impact.
3. The Miami -Dade Police Department attends many events throughout the County for the purpose of recruitment.
However, none of the events attended were specifically designated Hispanic events. B
The LOA-FLA committee found an overwhelming amount of Latinos hired that the
department really has no financial responsibility to target a group that is being hired in large
numbers.
4. Yes, the Miami-Dade Police Department employs Spanish speaking 911 operators. A
5. No, we do not provide Spanish translation on our website. B
The LOA-FLA committee did find segments on the agency web-site that did have translation
to Spanish ( such as Homeland Security & Professional Compliance Bureau - Internal Affairs)
The LOA-FLA committee recognized it could be better but it's a start.
6. The Miami -Dade Police Department budget for fiscal year 2006-2007 is $565,506,000. Question not
gradable.
7. The Miami -Dade Police Department hired 334 sworn and civilian employees in 2006. Of the 334 new employees,
59.58% (or 199 new employees) were of Hispanic origin. A
8. The Miami -Dade Police Department promoted 109 sworn personnel in 2006. Of the 109 promotions, 55.96% (or
61 promotions) were of Hispanic origin. A
9. In 2006, 101 Hispanic Police Officer trainees were hired to attend the MDPD Metropolitan Police Institute. A
10. Yes, the Miami-Dade Police Department received federal funding in 2006. Not a gradable question
