Dear Mr. Martinez:

In response to your request for information on behalf of the Latino Officers Association Florida,
Inc., I assure you that as a recognized accredited Police agency, the City of Hollywood Police
Department has and will continue to comply with hiring guidelines established by the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission.

During my six (6) years tenure as Chief of Police, the number of Police Officers of Hispanic origin
employed by the City of Hollywood has steadily increased. Currently, the City of Hollywood
employs approximately three hundred and twenty (320) Police Officers of which fifty two (52) are
of Hispanic origin.

I have personally promoted one (1) Officer of Hispanic origin to the management rank of Captain
and I am currently considering the promotion of a Hispanic female Police Sergeant to the rank of
Lieutenant.

The rank of Sergeant is represented by eight (8) Police Officers of Hispanic origin.

THE 2000 census indicates that the City of Hollywood has a thriving Hispanic community which
represents 18.5% if the total population of the City of Hollywood. The number of Police Officers
of Hispanic origin in this Department closely resembles this percentage and it continues to be our
goal to
seek qualified minority Police Officer applicants.

In response the remaining inquires in your correspondence, please be advised that the Hollywood
Police Department does distribute Victim's Rights Brochures in English and Spanish and our
Communications Division can provide Spanish translation for those who cannot communicate in
English.

If I can be any further assistance or provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to
contact me office.

Sincerely,

James H. Scarberry

Chief of Police.
